Nelson’s Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey is a revival of a historic American whiskey first created in 1860 by Charles Nelson. After the distillery was forced to close during Tennessee’s prohibition era in 1909, the brand remained dormant for more than a century until Charles’s descendants, Andy and Charlie Nelson, brought it back to life in Nashville.
This whiskey follows the traditional Tennessee style, using the Lincoln County Process in which the spirit is mellowed through sugar maple charcoal before aging. Its mash bill is built on corn, wheat, and malted barley, giving it a smooth and slightly sweet profile. Bottled at 91 proof (45.5% ABV), it offers rich aromas of caramel, vanilla, cinnamon, and apple. On the palate, you’ll taste brown sugar, caramel apple, baking spices, and a hint of cocoa, leading to a long finish with notes of cinnamon, apple, and black cherry. While still relatively young, it balances warmth and sweetness with a gentle fruitiness, making it enjoyable neat, on the rocks, or in cocktails. Nelson’s Green Brier combines deep heritage with a modern craft approach, appealing to whiskey lovers who appreciate both tradition and approachability.
